Centrica clarifies new biomass facility output

Energy company Centrica has come out and clarified the potential output of a proposed biomass power station.

There was confusion over the plant’s potential capacity as Cumbria County and Barrow Borough Councils believed it to be 90MW, whereas a letter to the Planning Inspectorate had it penned at 80MW.

‘We have made it very clear in our Preliminary Environmental Information that the proposal has a gross (90MW) and a net (80MW) electrical output figure. The difference between the two numbers is how much electricity is exported for use by consumers – the net figure is generally the number people look at when they want to know how much electricity a station generates into the local distribution network,’ Centrica said in a statement.

The next stage of the plant’s development is scheduled to take place on 31 September.
