Cambi ASA has signed a letter of intent with Indian infrastructure group NCC to supply its thermal hydrolysis process (THP) technology for the modernisation of sludge treatment at the Malad wastewater treatment plant in Mumbai.
The large new facility is being developed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation as part of a wider upgrade of the city’s sanitation infrastructure. The project would mark Cambi’s second THP installation in Mumbai and in India.
Cambi said the project is expected to progress to a definitive contract following early design work and final commercial negotiations. Delivery of the THP system is targeted for 2027, with the agreement classified as a medium-sized contract.
Once operational, the technology is expected to significantly increase biogas production, reduce truck traffic, and generate low-odour biosolids that can be used as a replacement for synthetic fertilisers.
The company said the project would strengthen its position in the Indian wastewater market while supporting Mumbai’s push for cost-effective and environmentally advanced sanitation solutions.
