Brazil’s Energisa has acquired 83.3% of Agric Adubos e Gestão de Resíduos Industriais e Comerciais, a Santa Catarina state company that composts industrial organic waste to produce biofertiliser, reported BNAmericas.
The operation involved the payment of R$6.5 million (€1.2 million) and a capital contribution to the company of R$53.5 million (€9.9 million).
The capital will be used for investments in the improvement of the composting system and a new biogas and biomethane production project.
"With this acquisition, the company will enter the renewable natural gas production and commercialisation sector, a major vector for the energy transition in the country," Energisa said in a statement.
