Boehringer introduces new biomass plant

Since last summer, a new biomass power plant has been supplying pharmaceutical giant Boehringer's headquarters in Ingelheim, Germany. Senior project manager Frank Zornow takes us behind the scenes.
A grey eight-story building has become a distinctive landmark in the eastern part of the Ingelheim campus, according to the company. The 43-metre-high structure is part of a complex that includes several neighbouring buildings.
Inside, huge gleaming machines are surrounded by kilometres of pipes and cables. The space is warm and is filled with the constant hum and throb of the machinery. The power plant constantly burns biomass to convert it into renewable energy throughout the site.
Energy supply: renewable and efficient
Frank Zornow is familiar with every corner of the new power plant. As Senior project manager, he guided every step of the construction process, from the initial idea to its completion.
“Our goal for the plant was clear from the outset: We wanted to reconcile sustainability with economic efficiency. It needed to be climate-friendly and effective at the same time,” he said, pointing to the mountains of wood...
