Bishop’s Castle biomass plant delayed

In Shropshire, UK, Bishop’s Castle Biomass Power looked set to acquire land on which it was planning to construct a biomass power plant.

However a recent meeting saw the development scrutiny committee agree to send the matter back to the Shropshire Council’s cabinet to review its decision.

Over 350 people attended the meeting to voice their concerns about the project and the committee’s decision resulted in a standing ovation.

The main cause for concern is environmental damage and location, as the potential site is located close to a school, housing, playing fields and a vets surgery.

Although Bishop’s Castle has not commented on this latest development, it has said that the plant would use sustainable materials such as woodchips to generate a large supply of power for the local area.
