Aberdeen's Italian biomethane platform, Bionext Infrastructure, has secured a €113 million financing package to fund the conversion of its existing assets into 100% renewable biomethane production facilities and support further growth.
The package was provided by BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole CIB, and SMBC.
Established in 2023 and based in Milan, Bionext Infrastructure comprises 15 operating plants in central and northern Italy, currently producing biogas and undergoing conversion into biomethane facilities. The converted plants will be underpinned by a 15-year incentive mechanism.
Vittorio Mazza, CEO and chairman of Bionext Infrastructure, said the financing represented "a significant milestone in the growth of our platform" and further cemented Bionext's position in Italy's biomethane sector.
Soti Calochristos, senior investment director at Aberdeen Economic Infrastructure, said the investment underscored "our long-term commitment to the renewable energy sector, and to the rapid expansion of biomethane."
Bionext is part of Aberdeen's third Core Infrastructure Fund, ASCI III. Aberdeen's Economic Infrastructure team has raised and deployed three infrastructure funds totalling over €2.7 billion.
The company was advised by SURE Advisory as financial adviser and Green Horse as legal adviser, with Ashurst advising the lending institutions.
