Anthony Veder and Gasum to advance FuelEU Maritime compliance with bio-LNG

Anthony Veder and Gasum are strengthening their partnership to support FuelEU Maritime requirements and accelerate emission reductions at sea.
Two LNG carriers chartered by Gasum — Coral Energy and Coral EnergICE — will operate on bio-LNG, generating compliance surpluses for Gasum’s FuelEU Maritime pool.
Anthony Veder will also contribute additional vessels from its fleet, further boosting compliance opportunities.
Jacob Granqvist, Vice President, Maritime at Gasum, highlighted the importance of the move: “This enables us to flexibly expand the capacity for our FuelEU Maritime pool even further, as demand is heating up towards the end of the first year of the regulation.”
Anthony Veder’s Commercial and Sustainability Director, Björn van de Weerdhof, added: “Running our vessels on bio-LNG contributes to significant emission reductions. Joining Gasum’s pool was the most cost-effective and reliable way to manage regulatory requirements.”
The FuelEU Maritime regulation, beginning in 2025, requires ship owners to cut fuel carbon intensity by 2%, with targets rising progressively to 80% by 2050.
Pooling allows compliant vessels to offset others within the same fleet. Gasum’s pool is notable because it combines fuel supply and compliance management, with DNV validating the pool’s balance.
