AHT patent boosts hydrogen from solid biomass

A.H.T. Syngas Technology (AHT), a leading developer of decentralised, climate-friendly biomass power plants, together with its partners Bionon UG and Bioenergy Concept, has been awarded a patent for the production of hydrogen through the thermal gasification of solid biomass in a fixed-bed reactor.

The patent represents a major technological step forward and provides the basis for the continuation of several strategic projects.

In recent months, these projects have been subject to detailed analysis and validation during a comprehensive due diligence review commissioned by Bioenergy Concept and undertaken by EY-Parthenon Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft and TÜV SÜD Industrieservice.

The findings confirmed both the technical feasibility and the economic viability of the ventures.

AHT intends to implement the projects as part of a business expansion through contracting its own plants.

Under current market conditions, the schemes - representing an investment of around €54 million - are forecast to deliver profit margins of 13–19%, making them highly attractive.

The project partners have already invested approximately €2 million in development.

With the granting of the patent, the next major milestone has been achieved on the path to launching the first hydrogen production facility at a site in northern Germany in 2026.

Commissioning and market-compliant hydrogen production are scheduled to begin in 2028.
