US AD plant hits the auction block

Following a constant stream of debate, legal battles and licensing issues since its inception in 2015, the stakeholders of a US anaerobic digester plant have elected to sell all of the facility’s equipment through an online auction.

The nearly $6.5 million (€5.2 million) Lowell Energy facility was built in 2015, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The facility housing the anaerobic digester uses upflow, downflow and reflow technology created by German engineering firm enCO2.

This equipment would be able to convert between 4,000 and 8,000 tonnes of manure per year from a local farm, and about 1.5 million gallons of wastewater, waste fats, oils and greases from local businesses, into methane that powers an 800kW electric power generator.

According to a statement, the equipment was all in operation recently, and has since been either professionally decommissioned or maintained in an idle position.

The online auction will be hosted by Biddergy, and is set to take place on 13 March between 8am and 8pm.
