Green light for UK-based £2m biomass project

UK-based renewable energy specialists VG Consulting and VG Energy have helped a Merseyside waste management firm to progress with its £2million (€23m) biomass plans.

According to VG Consulting, CCC Waste Management, based in Kirkby, is taking positive steps toward onsite energy management and has now gained planning consent for the project.

Ayrshire-headquartered VG Consulting, along with project planning consultant LJ Architecture, has successfully gained consent for CCC Waste Management to install 4MW of biomass boiler systems with an integrated drying floor.

The biomass boilers are being fuelled with Grade A/B waste wood.

Sean Munro, director of CCC Group, said: “Throughout our history, sustainability and the environment has always been a driving factor for us. We assist many organisations with environmentally aware processes in waste management.

“This is a substantial investment and after due diligence we realised that this approach will add value to our operations, our customer base and the wider community now and for the future.

“We are a business recognised for continued investment in new technology, machinery and staff and with our energy investment now, we are adding competitive advantage for us and our customers.”

Dave Anderson, managing director at VG Consulting, said: “We admire the desire by CCC Waste Management to take a long term strategic view of their energy demand.

“The partnership with CCC Waste, LJ Architecture and VG Energy throughout the process led to the consent success.

“Technology matching energy demand is critical in these circumstances but it also requires a business to have the right approach to energy needs now and for the future.

“CCC Waste has shown with its investment and approach that this is a long term strategy and we congratulate them.

“We are delighted that the business has achieved consent, supported with our project environmental services and wish them every success for the future.”

The planning application was unanimously approved.  Following consent, the next steps will be supply and installation of four Heizomart biomass boilers and a Wellvent drying floor, which will be carried out by technology partners VG Energy.
