Wood Pellet Association of Canada president resigns after one year on the job

Michele Rebiere, the president of the Wood Pellet Association of Canada (WPAC), is stepping down after just over a year in the position.

In a press statement, the organisation said that Rebiere expressed the need to focus on her role as chief financial officer of Viridis Energy as the company pursues the sale of its business.

In a statement, WPAC said: “WPAC’s Board is grateful for Ms. Rebiere’s five years of dedicated service as a board member and for her extraordinary effort over the past year as president.

“In accordance with WPAC’s bylaws, the Board has appointed former VP Rene Landry as president.  He has assumed this role until the next general meeting of the membership is held in September.  Landry is director of pellet operations for Nova-Scotia based Shaw Resources, a company that operates two plants in Atlantic Canada.”

Rebiere began working for Viridis in 2009.  Viridis specialises in wood pellets both domestically and internationally through a variety of market segments, which have been diversified over the years.

Last month, Viridis announced that it was up for sale. The company appointed a US biomass industry consultancy FutureMetrics as the sales representative of the company and its three subsidiaries.

In a statement, FutureMetrics said that the company will either be sold entirely through a stock purchase or by each individual subsidiary.
